To the region of earth and clay ksars

A ksar in local languages is essentially a fortified village, while a kasbah, Tighremt or Agadir is a fortified home made for the ruling and rich families.

They are massive structures, built out of the mud-clay taken simply from the riverbanks. A unique and probably indigenous development of the south morocco populations, they are often monumental in design and beautifully decorated, with fine geometric patterns incised into exterior high walls . Seasonal heavy rains wash off some of the mud, so the buildings require constant restoration.

Mostly met in Draa, Dades, Ziz and Atlas valleys this type of buildings are very representative of moroccan berber traditional architecture.
